BRAVE is Pixar's first feature with a female main character, and Merida isn't your typical princess. Brought up in the Scottish kingdom of DunBroch, Princess Merida (voiced by Kelly Macdonald) would rather sling her arrows than learn the proper etiquette befitting a future queen. When the realm's three other clans arrive to present their leaders' firstborn sons as potential suitors for betrothal, Merida rebels against her regal mother, Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson), and runs away to the forest. Following a will o' the wisp, Merida encounters a witch (Julie Walters) who conjures a magical cake to "change the queen." But when the queen eats the magical treat, it's not her mind that changes; she (possible spoiler alert!) transforms into a giant black bear -- exactly like the bear that took the "Bear King" Fergus' (Billy Connolly) leg a decade earlier. With her mother a bear and her father on the hunt, Merida must find out how to break the spell before her mother stays a bear forever -- or worse, is killed by the king and his men.

Brave movie review

For one, the film is visually stunning. Our heroine, Merida, is a brash, young woman who takes after her barbarian father more than her prim and proper mother. She bears her father's curly red locks in a gigantic mane of hair that speaks volumes about her character while simultaneously standing as a technical achievement in CG design. Her horse gallops through stunning vistas lit by brilliant sunsets. Like everything Pixar makes, Brave is simply a lot of fun to look at.

It would be wrong to spoil too many of Brave's plot details, so I'll stick to the basics. Merida is to be married off to one of three possible suitors who all come to the kingdom to present themselves and compete. Her mother, the queen, has been grooming her for this moment since childhood, but Merida has always fought against it. As the day approaches, the conflict between the two comes to a head, and Merida's attempt to escape her fate comes with some unexpected repercussions. To fix it, she has to mend the bond between herself and her mother, and in true Disney fashion, they'll learn something about each other along the way.

That plot feels more Disney Princess than Pixar's typical brand of off-the-wall creativity. There's a child-like, whimsical quality to many of Pixar's ideas that's missing from Brave. Gone is the singular concept that makes their usual work so approachable. Toys, fish, cars, superheroes, robots... there isn't one word to describe Brave. Feminism? Perhaps, but that's more of a subtext, like the environmentalism messages in Wall-E. Brave's main focus is a mother and daughter working out their issues, and while it's perfect family film territory, it's missing that Pixar secret sauce.

Three films in, the Toy Story series still found brilliant humor in simple observations about toys. That's Pixar at their most basic and effective, and yet that whimsical humor has been maintained in their more complex fare. Wall-E, Up, Ratatouille; they all had that same brilliant sense of humor.Brave is a very funny film, but again, it's not Pixar's typical brand of humor. It's more in Dreamworks' wheelhouse, sticking to jokes that are more slapstick and lowbrow. Again, it's well-done and I laughed repeatedly, but it lacked that wit I expect from Pixar.

Brave doesn't feel like a Pixar film. Whether that will bother you or not depends on how highly you regard their previous films. But even if it's more Dreamworks or Disney than Pixar, it still manages to entertain. It just isn't as magical as I expected.

Today i would like to intro a movie of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter".

Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov reinvent the time-honored genre and present the terrifying creatures of the night as they were meant to be experienced -- as fierce, visceral, intense and bloodthristy. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter brings to the screen the secret life of our nation's favorite president...as history's greatest hunter of the undead.

If you're going to call your movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, then it damn well better be as surreal as its title suggests. Therein lies the underlying defect of the film. In its attempt to concoct a clever spin on both horror movies and historical dramas, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter forgets that it is, or at least should be, just a goofy exercise. That screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (on whose novel the movie is based) takes the exercise so seriously—even if director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) seems incapable of doing so—actually robs the movie of any measure of credibility. 

Forget its borderline offensive central concept: vampires precipitate the Civil War, secretly allying themselves with the South in order to harness its slave trade for the purpose of providing strong, healthy food stock for the undead. If you want to hear more about that, my friend Glenn Kenny addresses it better than I can here. Instead, let me hone in on one line in his review which best characterizes what I thought of the film: "...if you're going to sin against morality and insult history at the same time, you had better be ruthlessly, divertingly entertaining about it." 

The movie instead tries to ground its flight of fancy with hollow references to slavery. It neither utilizes the vampire mythology as a metaphor about slavery/racism, nor does it use historical fact to give any kind of depth to the villainous monsters of the film. It's unfortunate too, given some of the setpieces imaginatively executed for the movie like an extended mano-a-mano between Abe (Benjamin Walker) and the vampire (Marton Csokas) that murdered his mother. More than just a mere duel, Bekmambetov ups the kineticism by placing the two in the midst of a seemingly endless herd of galloping horses. 

Worse yet, the viewer is forced to watch appealing actors like Walker and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (who plays wife Mary Todd Lincoln) give it their all in the central roles of a vacuous movie not worthy enough to merit such performances. It is as if this might be the only chance they'll ever have to play such larger-than-life historical figures (a self-fulfilling prophecy if I ever heard one). Walker is especially fine in evoking the gentle but indomitable spirit of perhaps our greatest president. But the fact that he plays the role so straight is a major miscalculation.

Today i would like to intro a movie of  "Snow White and the Huntsman".

Snow White and the Huntsman

In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.Snow White is the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen. Unable to tolerate the insult to her vanity, the evil queen decides that Snow White must die. The queen sends a huntsman to kill Snow White. However the huntsman finds himself unable to murder the innocent young woman, and instead ends up training her to become a warrior capable of threatening the queen's reign.

Snow White & the Huntsman puts a twist on the original story, with Hollywood heavy-weight Charlize Theron as the icy queen Ravenna who sucks the life out of young girls around the kingdom to maintain her eternal youth. Why she wants to live forever, I’m not quite sure. She does however maintain a strict girl-power mantra that all men are scumbags that will double-cross you silly. The only man she trusts is her slimy-looking brother, her partner in nefarious activities, and even this trust is brought into question when a moment of tender weakness allows Snow White to escape his grasp.

Also, Theron’s mirror is a bit of a wow-er. It’s what looks like a large brass plate hammered smooth, that turns gooey with magic and – lo and behold – a bronze/gold version of Darth Vader flows out of it to stand before the queen and tell me who exactly is fairest of them all.

Today i would like to intro a movie of  "MIB 3".

Men in Black III

The movie of this story  have  3 black men , Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back...in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind.

MEN IN BLACK 3 Highlight Rick Baker’s Incredible Alien Make-Up

 giant batch of new images from Men in Black 3 have hit the web.  Though we get our fair share of looks at stars Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Jermaine Clement, the real highlight of the group is a handful of peeks at legendary makeup artist Rick Baker’s inspired alien designs.  We saw a few of these in a recent batch of alien-centered pics, but this group is of much better quality.  Baker took his inspiration from the sci-fi films of the 50s and 60s, so the impressive group of aliens on display in Men in Black 3 have that retro look down-pat.

Today i would like to intro a  movie of " Battleship ".

A story of this movie is Based on a similarly named game, "Battleship" brings together an ensemble cast stationed in the Hawaiian Islands as an international naval fleet at Pearl Harbour. One day, all of a sudden, aliens are seen arriving, and little is known about them except that they are called "The Regents" and their mission is to build a power source in the ocean on planet Earth. However, "The Regents" have got it coming, for the navy fleet is there and they are determined not to let these invaders from outer space wreck havoc and destruction on their world. "Battleship" is also purported to show both sides of the story, from the aliens' perspective, as well as the humans' so the audience will know exactly where the opponent's ships are.

The Battleship Movie is going to focused around an alien attack on earth, which quite frankly.. is getting old. However, in 2012, the aliens, called The Regents, come here looking for something, we aren’t exactly clear on what till the end.
Our guess? Probably water, or our women. Considering Rihanna is in the movie, maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll take our women. Then again, Aliens never come to earth for anything else rather than our water…

Dark Shadow

Today i would like to intro a movie of "Dark Shadows to you . 

Dark Shadows

This story is telling in the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas (Thomas McDonell), set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and a grown-up Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and care-free… until he makes the grave mistake (literally) of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique uses her powers to cause the death of Barnabas' parents and then, when she learns he has fallen completely in love with the beautirful Josette duPres (Bella Heathcote), bewitches Josette into falling to her death from Widow's Hill and, when Barnabas leaps after her to join her in death, dooming him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, turning the entire town against him and then having him locked inside a chained coffin and buried alive.

Dark Shadows': The story behind the grand, Gothic set design

For anyone familiar with the original long-running television series “Dark Shadows,” one of the biggest surprises of Tim Burton's big-screen remake opening this week may lie with what's behind the massive front doors of Collinwood Manor.

Freed from the budgetary constraints of a daily soap opera set and fertilized with the vision of Burton and production designer Rick Heinrichs, the interior of Collinwood was built on a soundstage as a full-fledged, exquisitely detailed character of its own. Fading Gothic grandeur is seamlessly combined with maritime motifs that reference the Collins family's ties to the sea.

The floor of the grand foyer is tiled in a blue-and-white pattern that evokes ocean waves, and upon closer examination, the immense chandelier overhead proves to have milky white octopus tentacles snaking among the strings of crystals.

“I designed the undulating floor tile based on a 12th century basket-weave design I'd found,” Heinrichs said. “It was made to our specifications out of extra hard plaster, since a movie production can be a lot of wear.” The production designer said the marine-themed chandelier had to be sketched out and then rendered in 3-D.

ilmgoers also will see sea horses flanking the fireplace, sea serpents encircling the newels at the bottom of the grand staircase and denizens of the briny deep, including a trident-wielding Neptune, standing sentinel on carved wooden panels throughout the house — figures that were first made in miniature before larger versions were milled.

“It was tricky,” Heinrichs said, adding that the inordinate level of detail was necessary. “When Barnabas [Johnny Depp] walks into Collinwood, he makes a reference to the artisans and craftspeople who worked on the house. So it needed to reflect that amount of effort.”

The Collins family of "Dark Shadows" inevitably gravitates to the grand foyer for key moments, but much of the action takes place in smaller, more intimate spaces inside and outside the ancestral home: behind barking dog fireplaces, in hidden treasure rooms. Let's just say that this Collinwood Manor holds as many secrets as the family that inhabits it.
